ANNA MAE SMITH AWARD
Kiwanis Club of Hope Mills Area, Division 11
The club that had the most service hours per member for the year receives this award. Numbers are taken from the summary of monthly reports. Anna Mae Smith was a member of the John Barden Golden K in Boone, NC and mother to Past Governor Bill Wirth. She inspired Bill to do service for his community, thus his joining Kiwanis. One truly makes a difference. Hope Mills Area gave 6,500 service hours in the 2016-17 year, with a starting membership of 28. They gave an average of 238 service hours per member for the year.

The Kiwanis Club in the Carolinas District having the best interclub visitation record during each administrative year will be recognized with the interclub award. An interclub visit is one held by two or more Kiwanis clubs or by a Kiwanis Club and any Service Leadership Program. The Kiwanis Club of Hope Mills Area made visits to each of the Kiwanis clubs in their division as well as doing interclubs with their Service Leadership Programs.

KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION PRESIDENT'S CHALLENGE
The president challenges Lt. Governors to be our foundation advocates and to actively promote the foundation within their division by increasing the division's cumulative giving (from individuals, clubs and other entities) to the annual fund by 10% (based on an average of the previous three administrative years) reaching a minimum of $750.00.

Stop Hunger Now

The District designed this award to promote cooperation on service within a division with hopes that these projects will spark a club's interest to have close communications with the entire division throughout the year. One division will be chosen as the winner. An award will be presented to the Lt. Governor with certificates given to each club that participated. The division will have the option to provide a feature article for the Carolina Kiwanian. Division 26 furnished funds to purchase food stuffs as well as volunteers to package meals with the goal of contributing to the eradication of hunger worldwide by distributing meals to malnourished areas of developing countries. With 20 Kiwanians and 10 Key Clubbers furnishing “hands-on” activity in the well-organized process, a total of 285,000 meals were packaged. The clubs that participated were: Columbus County, Southport - Oak Island and Wilmington.
HERB HENNIG AWARD
Betty Manning, Kiwanis Club of Coats
The Herb Hennig Award can only be received once in a lifetime. Clubs nominate an outstanding secretary by sending a written explanation to their Lt. Governor. The explanation should include substantiating letters from Kiwanis leaders, such as past club presidents, and should also have letters from others in the community who could substantiate the secretary's service to the community and to Kiwanis. The Lt. Gov then selects one out of all the nominations received and sends it to the District Office by October 31st of the next year.

The Kiwanis Club of Coats made 19 interclubs to Kiwanis clubs during the year. They visited the other 10 clubs in their division travelling over 2,000 miles total.
