Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time.
The Carolinas District of Kiwanis International covers both North Carolina and South Carolina with 175 plus clubs and close to 6,000 members.
Our Vision: Kiwanis will be a positive influence in communities worldwide...so that one day, all children will wake up in communities that believe in them, nurture them, and provide the support they need to thrive.
Our Mission: The Carolinas District of Kiwanis International is committed to improving the lives of children throughout North and South Carolina by ensuring that every community has the opportunity to be served by a strong, inclusive, impactful Kiwanis club.
Our Guiding Principals:
Our role as a District is to create and support Kiwanis clubs and programs so that clubs can thrive and be a positive force for change in their communities. We do this by:
April brings us to Spring and the midpoint of our Kiwanis year. It is time to take stock of our goals, what we have accomplished and what remains to be done. Our first goal is to develop a database of our Carolinas Clubs’ Signature Service projects. This database is to serve as a resource for clubs to go to for new service project ideas for their own communities. The database is now available on our Carolinas website and ready for clubs to input information about your club’s signature service projects. (Click on this link to check it out.)
Our second goal is to increase club sponsorship of our Service Leadership Programs (SLPs). Our targets for each SLP are 6 K-Kids Clubs, 6 Builders Clubs, 15 Key Clubs, 4 Circle K Clubs and 3 Aktion Clubs. The following SLPs have been added during our first six months:
New SLP Sponsoring Kiwanis Club
Cape Fear Christian Academy K-Kids Coats
Ed V. Baldwin Elementary K-Kids Hope Mill Area
Southport Elementary K-Kids Southport-Oak Island
Lake Carolina Elementary K-Kids Columbia
Elise Middle School Builders Club Seven Lakes
Lewis Chapel Builders Club Cape Fear, Fayetteville
Harnett Central Middle School Builders Club Angier
Pine Lake Preparatory Key Club Lake Norman
Mountain Island Charter School Key Club Charlotte
A.C. Reynolds High School Key Club Asheville
East Bladen High School Key Club Elizabethtown
Charleston Center School for Math & Science Key Club Charleston
Beaufort High School Key Club Beaufort
Brunswick Community College CKI Southport-Oak Island
Queens University of Charlotte CKI Charlotte
Kudos to the Southport-Oak Island Kiwanis Club which is the first club in our district to sponsor a SLP at every level: Key Club, Builders Club, Aktion Club, CKI and two weeks ago they added K-Kids. Key Club Governor Katie McNiffe challenged us at Mid-Year District Convention to be brave, to step out of our comfort zone and be an advisor to a Key Club or other SLP. Carolinas Kids need Kiwanis! I urge you to join the effort to bring service leadership programs to the schools in your communities. (If I missed a new SLP, please notify me.)
Our third goal is to increase Carolinas Kiwanis membership by building 8 to 13 new Kiwanis Clubs this year. To date, Kiwanians across our district have worked together to build the following five clubs:
New Kiwanis Club Sponsoring Kiwanis Club
Kannapolis Charlotte & Salisbury
Craven County Chapel Hill & Carrboro
North Augusta Aiken & Uptown Augusta (GA)
McDowell County Black Mountain-Swannanoa
Shallotte-South Brunswick Islands Southport-Oak Island
Six months down and six months to go! Given the dedication and determination of Carolinas Kiwanians we will achieve our goals and finish strong. Thank you for your continued commitment to improving the lives of our children and communities!

What if you could save a baby's life?
With The Eliminate Project, you can. Maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) kills one baby every nine minutes. But three doses of a 60-cent vaccine can protect mothers and babies. Kiwanis and UNICEF have joined forces to bring this vaccine to 38 countries, eliminating MNT from the face of the Earth. What can you do right now? Learn about MNT and advocate for the cause. Participate in our fundraisers. Over the next few years, the work we do will change the world. Find out more at www.TheEliminateProject.org.
